Jaquet Droz is expanding the legendary Grande Seconde collection with a new model, the Grande Seconde Moon Anthracite. Inspired by a pocket watch created in 1785 by Pierre Jaquet Droz, this new chronograph is characterised by its sandblasted grey dial evoking the Moon's surface, thus giving the timepiece a contemporary feel.
Its design features a graceful figure-of-eight formed by two intertwining circles. The upper sub-dial indicates hours and minutes, while the larger one indicates seconds and the date. Moreover, the latter is also endowed with a stunning moon phase display showing six stars and the Moon in white gold on a midnight blue sky. To recreate the uneven surface of the Moon, the craters and lines were drawn by hand.
The date is shown with a blued steel hand topped by a red lacquered tip. The odd days of the month are engraved in white, while day 31 is in red. Seconds, which are also indicated by a blued steel hand with a circular counterweight, are printed in white on a railway track. Meanwhile, on the upper sub-dial, hours and minutes are shown with white Roman numerals and blued steel hands.
It all comes together in perfect and intense harmony with the blue colour that recalls the universe.
Jaquet Droz and its astronomical moon
The calibre is equipped with a 135-tooth wheel that accurately reproduces the lunar revolution. This system boasts a precision of 29 days, 12 hours and 45 minutes and only needs to be adjusted once every 122 years and 46 days. Most conventional moon phase displays rely on a 59-tooth wheel, which must be adjusted once every two years, seven months and 20 days.
The Grande Seconde Moon Anthracite is set on a handmade alligator strap with a stainless steel folding clasp.
