88th birthday: TAG Heuer presents the Carrera Chronograph Limited Edition
To mark the 88th birthday of Jack Heuer, the great-grandson of the brand’s founder, TAG Heuer presented a limited edition of 188 pieces of one of its signature models, the Carrera Heuer, at the end of last year. The new timepiece will be available in mid-March 2021.

In 1963, Jack Heuer designed the Heuer Carrera 1158CHN for professional drivers. The watch was inspired by the legendary Carrera Panamericana motor race created in 1950 and held every year in Mexico. The biggest carmakers took part, including Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Lancia…Frédéric Arnault, TAG Heuer’s current president, explains that when Jack heard the name in reference to the Mexican race, he thought it would be perfect for a watch. The design, the name, it was all Heuer, and it all worked right away.At the time, it was notably worn by Scuderia Ferrari.
During the partnership between Heuer and Ferrari in the 1970s, Jack Heur had a tradition of presenting an 18-carat gold Heuer Carrera to Formula 1 drivers, including Ronnie Peterson, Niki Lauda and Clay Regazzoni.

Featuring a 42 mm case in 18-carat rose gold, the new model stays true to the original design while adding a few touches of modernity. As is customary with racing watches, the two counters at 3 and 9 o'clock are in contrasting black with a sunray finish. The rose-gold-coloured hands and hour markers coated with white Super-LumiNova® are easy to read even at high speeds and at all times.

The piece is fitted with a manufacture Heuer 02 movement. Moreover, it builds up an 80-hour power reserve and is water resistant to 100 metres (10 bar). The symbol 88, representing double infinity (and the creator’s age), adorns the centre of the dial.
The oscillating weight, which is engraved with Jack Heuer’s motto “Time never stops, why should we?”, is visible through the case back. Finally, the black alligator strap bears Jack Heuer’s signature in gold lettering.
